Cycling Again!

Image
I've just been for a modest ride on TFW ('The Flying Welshman').  However, it feels as if I've made it to Everest Camp 1.  This is the first half-reasonable ride that I've done since my knee problem took hold last September.  It's early days, but I feel really elated that I'm well on the road to recovery, and can hopefully look forward to many miles ahead this year.  I'm very grateful to the excellent work of Mr Veitch, the Orthopaedic Surgeon, and to Alex and Richard, the Physios. I have so much missed the pleasure of physical exercise, the joy of being out in the fresh air and lovely Wiltshire countryside, and also the calm reflective place that I get to in my mind when I'm out on my bike.  It felt wonderful this morning.

A great week in Houston BMT-style. Now home to the British winter.... 😊

Back on my bike!

It's now two and a half weeks since my knee operation.  I've been riding indoors on rollers since Tuesday, after my physio check-up.  Yesterday, I got out cycling on the road, for the first time in about three month - absolute joy.  I've been out again today - it feels great.  A grand total of eight miles on two rides, but it's a start.  I need to build up very gradually now - a few more minutes on each ride, and definitely no hills yet.  That's pretty difficult where we live.... My objective is to ride the Wiltshire Wildcat in mid-March.  A long climb to get ready for it, but very achievable.
