Sea Kayaking
I only discovered the true joys of sea kayaking in 2016. For many years, I had somewhat envied my friends who paddled during our wonderful holiday trips to Dale in Pembrokeshire each year. I have also for many years loved the sweeping lines of sea kayaks. I was particularly taken with some old wooden kayak frames that I saw in Greenland.
I now paddle regularly Thursday evenings on the River Hamble, Southampton Water and the Solent with a group of friends. In the summer, we launch from Warsash, and in the winter, we launch from Swanwick. I also get out on other trips when I can. I am a member of the New Forest Kayak and Canoe Club, but haven't yet managed to be very active with them.
I paddle a Valley Gemini Sport ("Ragtime"). The pictures above were taken in Pembrokeshire, whilst paddling around Skomer and Skokholm Islands with Guy, Phil, Isobel and Tony in July 2016. The picture below was taken on the Bramble Bank in the middle of the Solent on a very low tide during an evening paddle with Craig and Charles in August 2017.
